1.4 SUBMITTALS

B. Product Data:
1. National Evaluation Report indicating limitation of use, high temperature strength testing, and flame spread, corrosion, and hygroscopic properties.
2. Manufacturer's product specifications, storage instructions, and installation instructions.
C. Samples: Supply samples for finishing where finish samples are required by other sections of the specifications.
D. Certificates: Submit wood treater's specifications showing compliance with referenced standards.
1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store products indoors and protect from moisture, construction traffic, and damage.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 MANUFACTURER
A. Provide fire-retardant wood treatment by or licensed by Hoover Treated Wood Products, Inc., P.O. Box 746, Thomson, GA 30824. Telephone 800-832-9663. FAX 706-595-1326.
B. Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.
NOTE ** Delete paragraph above or below; coordinate with Division 1 requirements.
C. Substitutions: Not permitted.
2.2 MATERIALS
A. "Pyro-Guard" third generation fire-retardant treated wood, complying with MIL-L-19140.
B. Fire Retardancy:
1. Flame spread, when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84, NFPA 255, or UL 723: Not more than 25.
2. Smoke toxicity: No more than that of untreated wood.
3. Each piece shall bear the UL Classification Mark certifying flame spread rating.
4. When test is extended for 20 additional minutes (30 minutes total), the flame front shall not extend more than 10.5 feet from the center line of the burner and there shall be no evidence of significant progressive combustion.
5. Treatment formulation shall contain no halogens, sulfates, chlorides, ammonium phosphate, oils, or solvents.
C. Reviewed by the National Evaluation Service, Inc. for structural use at elevated temperatures.
D. Production and kiln drying after treatment monitored by Timber Products Inspection, Inc.
E. Kiln dry lumber to 19 percent or less moisture content after treatment.
F. Kiln dry plywood to 15 percent or less moisture content after treatment.
2.3 FABRICATION
A. Milling: Lumber shall be ripped or run to pattern, as required, prior to treatment.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Discard pieces with defects which might impair quality or work.
3.2 FIELD CUTTING
A. Lumber: Do not rip or mill lumber after fire-retardant treatment; end cuts, drilling of holes, and joining cuts are permitted.
B. Plywood: Fire-retardant-treated plywood can be cut in any direction.
3.3 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Remove scraps and debris from site, and leave in a broom-clean condition.
